Hi guys!
A lot of you have asked how you can improve your English outside of class. Here are a few ideas. More ideas are always welcome!
First: do something you like
Music: If you like music, find the lyrics of a song you love. Read them all. Look up the new words. Listen to the song with the lyrics. Sing along while reading the lyrics. Try to memorize the lyrics. Use vocabulary from the song to make flashcards and test yourself. Sing! (It's great for your pronunciation too!)
Series: Watch a show and pay attention to language.
Beginners: watch with subtitles in Spanish and notice new words said in English. Go back, listen again. Try watching with subtitles in English. Try to get the general idea first, then watch again and pay attention to vocabulary. Write down new words, look them up, make frashcards.
Advanced: watch without subtitles to get a general idea. Watch again with subtitles in English if necessary for specific vocabulary, and then watch again without subtitles. Write down words you don't know, make flashcards, test yourself.
Movies: Same as with series. I like this website.
